Reaching for your Goals as an Afterthought

Living as an afterthought is lonely. Family members ask about your work and quickly move to another subject, rarely showing interest in your life. At other times, they want to brag to their friends, although they don't remember what you do or the goals you have. Frequently those around can be heard saying "oh, we almost forgot about ...." Living as an afterthought is not standing in the shadows, it is standing alone in a crowd of those who know you and being forgotten.

Support for dreams and goals is hard to find. Reaching for a Doctorate in Education is a conundrum to some, asking why am I working on this at all! They don't understand why it is important to me. Without support, the goals I set for myself are clear and reachable, growing stronger with each goal that has been reached.

The Ed.D degree is not an easy one. Finding the right University, using the guidance they provide, and finding ways to improve with each course. With each course, fellow students are there to encourage each other, reminding each other that they are not alone. Learning how to navigate through new and exciting topics, and stressing that you may not do well enough is part of the goal.

Your scholastic goal is yours, it does not require approval from others. It would be lovely if a family member remembered what degree is being sought after, or friends that didn't scoff when you need to complete assignments instead of having fun. The colleagues in the courses understand the challenges and that my need to be enough. Starting with an Associates degree, earning a Batchelors and Masters degree have been milestones leading to a doctorate degree. It can be done!! Go after your goals!!
